Processing complex events and emotions are a natural part of our development and growth process. Childhood Trauma occurs when a child goes through events or experiences that are emotionally distressing or painful and result in prolonged effects on mental health.

Types of Trauma:

There are many types of childhood trauma, and the most common ones include:

  • Physical abuse or neglect 
  • Emotional abuse or neglect
  • Sexual abuse
  • Bullying or cyberbullying
  • Dysfunctional familial background (domestic violence, a parent who is incarcerated or with a mental health disorder)
  • Poverty Stress
  • Accidents
  • Violence at home, school or in the community

Psychology interventions can help uncover the negative impact of early experiences, as well as help the sufferer process the event, improve their self-esteem, form better relationships, behavioural and thought patterns.
