Understanding Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction. Children with autism may experience a range of challenges and exhibit unique strengths. Early intervention and tailored support can significantly improve outcomes and help children with autism lead fulfilling lives.

Common Signs of Autism

Identifying autism early can make a significant difference in a child’s development. Common signs of autism include:

  • Social Interaction Difficulties: Limited eye contact, difficulty understanding social cues, and challenges in forming relationships.
  • Communication Challenges: Delayed speech development, difficulty starting or maintaining conversations, and repetitive or rigid language patterns.
  • Repetitive Behaviors: Engaging in repetitive movements (e.g., hand-flapping, rocking), insistence on routines, and strong interest in specific topics or objects.
  • Sensory Sensitivities: Overreacting or underreacting to sensory stimuli such as lights, sounds, textures, and tastes.
  • Unusual Play Patterns: Limited or repetitive play, preference for solitary play, and difficulty with imaginative play.

Our Approach to Treatment

Our treatment plans are individualised to meet the unique needs of each child with autism, using evidence-based techniques to enhance communication, social skills, and overall development.

Personalised Therapy Plans: Each child receives a customised therapy plan tailored to their specific needs and goals. These plans include a variety of engaging and interactive activities that focus on improving communication, social interaction, and adaptive behaviors.

Speech and Language Therapy: To address communication challenges, we use evidence-based strategies to improve speech, language, and non-verbal communication skills. This includes techniques such as picture exchange communication systems (PECS), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and social stories.

Social Skills Training: We provide structured social skills training to help children understand and navigate social interactions. This includes teaching appropriate social behaviors, understanding social cues, and developing meaningful relationships.

Behavioral Interventions: Using techniques from applied behavior analysis (ABA), we help children develop positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors. This includes reinforcement strategies, behavior modification plans, and parent training.

Sensory Integration Therapy: For children with sensory sensitivities, we incorporate sensory integration techniques to help them process and respond to sensory information more effectively. This includes activities that improve sensory regulation and adaptive responses.

Parent and Family Support: We provide parents and caregivers with guidance and support to reinforce therapy techniques at home. This includes strategies for managing behaviors, promoting communication, and creating a supportive environment for the child.
