Is Your Child Gifted?

As a Minto parent, you may have noticed that your child asks questions beyond their years, gets bored with age-appropriate activities, or experiences emotions with an intensity that surprises you. These can all be signs of giftedness, and understanding your child's profile can make a significant difference to their education and wellbeing.

Questioning rules and authority when they don't see the logic

Daydreaming or appearing inattentive when they're actually understimulated

Strong sense of justice and concern for world issues from a young age

Difficulty with tasks that feel repetitive or beneath their ability

Asynchronous development, where intellectual ability outpaces emotional maturity

Anxiety related to performance expectations or fear of making mistakes

Gifted children have unique needs, and without the right understanding and support, they can become disengaged, anxious, or underperforming. An assessment is the first step to ensuring your child's potential isn't going to waste.

Common Questions

Questions Minto parents ask about gifted assessments for children.

What does a gifted assessment measure?

A gifted assessment measures cognitive abilities across multiple areas including verbal comprehension, visual spatial skills, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. This gives a complete picture of how your child thinks and learns, not just a single IQ number.

At what age can my child be assessed for giftedness?

Children can be reliably assessed from around age six, though some assessments are available for younger children. The results become more stable and reliable as children get older.

Will the school accept the assessment results?

Yes. Our assessments use recognised, standardised tools that schools accept for placement in gifted and talented programs, acceleration, or differentiated learning plans. The report includes specific educational recommendations.

Can a child be gifted and have a learning difficulty?

Yes. This is called 'twice-exceptional' or '2e.' A child can be intellectually gifted while also having ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or other challenges. Our assessment can identify this dual profile so both needs are addressed.

What happens if my child is gifted but bored at school?

The assessment report will include specific recommendations for the school, such as curriculum compacting, subject acceleration, enrichment activities, or other strategies to keep your child appropriately challenged and engaged.
