I'm already seeing my own psychologist. Will you really pay for that through the wellness allowance?

Yes, we literally pay for your therapy. No justification needed, no awkward conversations. Because we know the irony of psychologists who can't afford their own mental health care. Your wellness allowance is yours to use - whether that's your psychologist, gym membership, massage, or whatever keeps you sane. We practice what we preach.

What happens if I disagree with how something's being done at Unbound Minds?

You speak up, and we actually listen. We don't do hierarchy for hierarchy's sake - good ideas win, regardless of who has them or how long they've been here. If you see something broken, you're expected to help fix it, not just complain about it. We genuinely believe the newest team member might have the insight that transforms how we work. Your fresh eyes aren't a liability - they're exactly what keeps us from becoming the stale practice we swore we'd never be.

Be honest - what's the actual work-life balance like? Every practice claims they have it.

Our psychologists take their birthday off. They use their wellness allowances without guilt. They access long service leave early. They work flexibly without justifying every adjustment. We have sustainable caseloads by design, not accident. Are there busy periods? Sure. But burnout isn't a badge of honor here - it's a system failure we actively prevent.

Can I actually say no to referrals that aren't right for me, or will I be pressured to take everyone?

We map out your preferences and boundaries from day one - what you love working with, what you're trained in, and what you absolutely won't see. This isn't a wishlist we ignore when things get busy. It's a hard agreement we stick to. Not trained in eating disorders? You'll never get that referral. Don't work with kids? They won't mysteriously appear in your calendar. Need a break from couples work? Just tell us. We believe forcing psychologists to work outside their zone doesn't just create burnout - it compromises care. Your boundaries aren't negotiable, they're necessary.

What's the real culture like? Is everyone actually friends or is it cliquey and political?

We're not going to pretend everyone's best friends who hang out on weekends - that's cult behavior, not workplace culture. What we do have is genuine professional respect without the politics. No whispered conversations that stop when you walk in. No competing for the "favourite" spot with management. No mean-girls energy masquerading as "we're like family." You'll find people you click with and others you just work well alongside. The only non-negotiable is treating each other with decency. Brilliant jerks don't last here - we'll choose team cohesion over individual talent every time.

What does career progression actually look like? Will I be doing the same thing in 3 years?

We map out real growth pathways from day one, not vague "we'll see how you go" promises. Want to become a clinical supervisor? There's a clear path and we'll support your training. Interested in specialising? We'll help you build that expertise and adjust your caseload accordingly. Ready for leadership? We have senior roles that aren't just empty titles. Your progression plan is individually designed and regularly reviewed. Performance drives progression here. Excel at what you do, and your role, responsibilities, and yes, your pay, evolve with you. Three years from now, you could be leading programs, mentoring grads, or pioneering new service areas. Stagnation is a choice, not an inevitability.
