Learn to work with your emotions, together.

For adults who feel things hard and fast. You snap at the people you love, shut down mid-conversation, or lie awake replaying the day. The harder you try to hold it all together, the more exhausting it gets. This psychologist-led skills class teaches you, week by week, how to stay in charge when emotion takes over.

✓ Keep your own psychologist
✓ Medicare rebates may apply
“Will I have to share?”
Only if you want to. This is a class, not a circle. You set your own pace.
The big misconception

A class, not a circle.

When people hear “group”, they picture a circle of chairs and forced sharing. That's not what this is. A skills class works like any great class: an expert teaches, you learn, you practise.

What people picture

Sitting in a circle sharing your story
Being put on the spot in front of strangers
  Unstructured talk sessions
  Only for people in crisis

What it actually is

A psychologist teaching a practical skill each week
✓ You choose what you share, or share nothing at all
A structured curriculum with take-home materials
For anyone whose emotions run hot, fast, or heavy
Is this you?

When emotions feel bigger than the moment.

If a few of these feel familiar, the skills taught in this program were designed for exactly this. No diagnosis required, just the sense that your emotions are running the show.

Emotions go from zero to overwhelming with little warning
You say or do things in the heat of the moment that you later regret
Your moods decide your day, not the other way around
You avoid people or situations because of how they might make you feel
You know the reaction is bigger than the situation, but can't change it
Holding it all together is exhausting
How it works

Four steps, zero pressure.

1

Register your interest

A quick form or phone call. No commitment, just a conversation.

2

A brief chat with us

We make sure the group fits what you need right now. If it doesn't, we'll point you to what does.

3

Weekly sessions

One skill per week, taught by a psychologist, with simple real-life practice between sessions.

4

Skills for life

You finish the block with a toolkit you'll keep using long after the program ends.

What you'll learn

A curriculum, not a conversation.

Part 1 · Understand

Name what's happening

Recognise your emotions, what triggers them, and what each one is trying to do for you.

Part 2 · Change

Shift the emotion

Check whether a reaction fits the facts, act opposite to unhelpful urges, and solve the problems driving distress.

Part 3 · Protect

Lower your vulnerability

Build daily habits around sleep, health, mastery and positive experiences that make overwhelm less likely in the first place.

Part 4 · Ride the wave

Handle the big moments

Stay steady through intense emotions without acting on them, so hard moments don't become lasting damage.

Based on the emotional regulation module of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), one of the most researched approaches for managing intense emotions.

Why learn in a group?

Because skills stick better together.

You realise you're not the only one

Sitting in a room of people learning the same skills quietly dissolves the shame that keeps so many people stuck.

You learn from more than one story

Hearing how a skill works for someone else often teaches you more than any worksheet could.

More support, more often

A weekly group costs significantly less than weekly individual sessions, making consistent skill-building genuinely accessible.

🤝 Already seeing a psychologist?Perfect. The group teaches the skills; your individual sessions are where you apply them to your own story. Many participants do both, and you're welcome to keep seeing a psychologist outside Unbound Minds too.

Still on the fence?

Fair questions, honest answers.

Is this group therapy? Will I have to talk about personal things in front of others?

No. This is a skills training group, closer to a class than traditional group therapy. A psychologist teaches practical skills each week and you choose how much or how little you share. Many people find the group format takes the pressure off, because the focus is on learning, not disclosure.

Do I need a diagnosis to join? Is DBT only for borderline personality disorder?

No diagnosis is needed. While DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, its emotional regulation skills are now used far more broadly and can help anyone who finds emotions intense, fast-moving or hard to manage. We'll chat with you before the group starts to make sure it's the right fit.

What if I join and it's not right for me?

That's what the intake chat is for. Before the group starts, we'll talk through what you're looking for and make an honest call together. If a group isn't the right fit right now, we'll help you find what is.

Can I attend while seeing my own psychologist?

Yes, and we encourage it. The group teaches skills; your individual sessions are where you go deeper on how those skills apply to your specific situation. You can also attend the group on its own.

Are Medicare rebates available for group sessions?

Medicare rebates may be available for group therapy with an eligible GP referral, and they're separate from your individual session entitlements. Our team will walk you through funding, fees and referrals before you commit to anything.

Not sure yet? That's exactly what the first chat is for.

Register your interest and our team will call you. No scripts, no pressure. We'll tell you when the next group starts, what it costs, and honestly whether it's right for you.
