Your First Appointment

Walking into therapy for the first time can feel like stepping into the unknown. You might be nervous, unsure what to say, or wondering if you’ll cry (or not cry). It’s all normal - and nothing you need to get “right.”

Here’s what to expect:

  • A warm welcome: Our admin team will greet you (or check you in online), and your psychologist will come to meet you at the start of your session.
  • A comfortable pace: The first session is about building rapport, understanding what’s brought you here, and exploring your goals. You don’t need to tell your life story in 50 minutes.
  • A safe space: Everything you share is confidential. We’ll explain any exceptions to that upfront - like if there’s risk of harm.

Many people worry about what to say. Truth is, you can just start with what’s on your mind. Your psychologist will guide the conversation gently, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of it all.

We’ll also chat about:

  • What’s going on for you right now
  • Any past experiences that might be relevant
  • What you’d like to change, understand, or work toward
  • Whether therapy feels like a good fit so far

You’ll leave the first session with a clearer sense of what therapy might look like - and hopefully, a little more hope in your pocket.

No pressure to have it all figured out. Just come as you are.
