You don't need a crisis to come — just a wish for things to be better.

Couples come to us at every stage. You might be dealing with:

  • Conversations that keep turning into the same argument
  • Feeling more like housemates than partners
  • Rebuilding trust after a breach or betrayal
  • A big transition — a baby, a move, illness, blending families
  • Closeness, intimacy or desire that has changed
  • Preparing for marriage, or deciding together what comes next

When another path may fit first. We will always be honest if couples therapy is not the right starting point. If either of you feels unsafe, or there is controlling or violent behaviour in the relationship, couples work is not recommended — and we will help you find the right support. If one partner is in crisis right now, individual care may need to come first.

A method behind the warmth.

Our couples work is grounded in the Gottman Method — one of the most researched approaches to what actually helps relationships last — alongside other evidence-based frameworks. The method keeps our standard consistent; how it is used is always shaped by the two people in the room.

What to expect:

  • A first session, together. We hear what has brought you in, and what you would each like to be different. No taking sides.
  • Getting to know your relationship. A short, structured assessment (including a questionnaire you complete separately) so we understand your patterns — not just this week's argument.
  • A one-to-one with each of you. A private session each, so both perspectives are genuinely understood.
  • A shared plan. We bring it together and agree what we will focus on — in plain language, tailored to you.
  • The work, together. Regular sessions building the skills and repairs that last, at a pace that suits you.

Your Questions, Answered.

Thinking about couples therapy but not sure how it works, or whether it is for you? Here are the questions couples ask us most.

Do we need a referral?

No — you can book directly. Because couples therapy is not Medicare-rebatable, you do not need a GP referral to start.

Is couples therapy covered by Medicare?

No. Relationship and couples therapy is not covered by Medicare, so these sessions are private — there is no rebate for couples counselling. If one partner is also seeing us individually for a diagnosed mental health condition, that is separate and may be rebatable with a GP referral.

What if my partner is reluctant?

Very common — and counselling can still help. Coming along even once, just to learn about it, asks nothing more than curiosity. Our job is to create a balanced space where both of you are heard, without taking sides.

Will you tell us whether to stay together?

No. Our role is to help you understand each other and make the choices that are right for you — whatever those turn out to be.

Can we do sessions online?

Yes — in person at Gledswood Hills or Kingswood, or online across NSW, whatever suits you both.
